Located in the heart of Western Pennsylvania 35 minutes north of Pittsburgh, Armstrong County is where opportunity and capability meet to produce results.
According to the 2000 U.S. Census, approximately 21% of the Armstrong County labor force is employed in the manufacturing industry. Approximately 19% of the labor force was employed in the education, health, and social services industry. Other significant industry leaders in the Armstrong County labor force according to the 2000 Census were retail trade at approximately 12% and construction at approximately 7% of the total labor force.
Although important, these statistics are but a preface to the real story of Armstrong County’s economy and workforce. Armstrong County today supports a burgeoning high-tech sector including electro-optics, advanced manufacturing and machining, energy production, and other areas. Supporting this new-age economy is a new generation of educated, well-trained “gold collar” workers who are focused, flexible, and committed to performance excellence.
