The mission of the Electro-Optics Center is to be the national center of excellence for the advancement of electro-optics science and technology and to work in partnership with the Navy, Department of Defense and US industry to deliver state-of-the-art electro-optic related systems to our defense forces. In fulfilling its mission the Electro-Optics Center will be a regional and national resource and serve as • an enabler of manufacturing technology • a conduit for science and technology • a leader in workforce development Since its inception in 1999, the EOC has been the Office of Naval Research's (ONR) Electro-Optics Manufacturing Technology Center (EOMTC) for ONR's manufacturing technology (ManTech). The EOMTC provides support to ONR through its own technical capabilities; those capabilities resident at PSU; and those of the Electro-Optics Alliance (EOA). The EOA is a cosortium of over 400 industrial, governmental, non-profit, and academic organizations that share their expertise and capabilities to support Navy and DoD requirements. The EOA was formed to promote U.S. preeminence in all areas of the electro-optics sciences. The EOC also supports the Army, Air Force, Missile Defense Agency, Special Operations Command, and commercial entities.
